Partnerships
Mahl bei Luthers im Refektorium The Reformation began on October 31, 1517, in Wittenberg. Martin Luther changed the Church and the world with his Ninety-Five Theses. The principles of the Reformation quickly spread, and Martin Luther was soon involved in dialogues and debates with like-minded allies and supporters, but also with opponents. The result was a ‘Reformation network’ of sorts.

Today, there are more than 70 million Lutherans and 340 million Protestants around the world; Eisleben and Wittenberg represent central points of reference for their cultural and religious identity. Many institutions and initiatives are concerned with the themes and protagonists of the Reformation. The Luther Memorials Foundation of Saxony-Anhalt thus maintains diverse partnerships and is an active member in numerous networks and associations.

Routes to Luther
Routes to Luther The most important Luther sites are to be found in Central Germany, in the states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia. Luther's biography leads us from Eisleben, where he was born and where he later died at the age of 63, to Eisenach, where he spent a part of his schooldays and where he later translated the Bible in the Wartburg Castle, then to Erfurt, where he was a university student and where he later became a monk, and finally to Wittenberg, where he lived and worked for over 36 years.

Conference of National Cultural Institutions (KNK)
Conference of National Cultural Institutions The Conference of National Cultural Institutions (KNK) is a coalition of more than twenty institutions located in eastern German states. It was founded on March 1, 2002, at the Francke Foundations of Halle and was a result of the so-called 'Blue Book': a list publicising cultural beacons in Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia, which was organised by Prof. Paul Raabe at the request of the federal government.

The KNK’s goal is to promote the preservation of the cultural heritage located in the former East German (GDR) states and to establish the significance of their museums, collections, archives, and landscape gardens in the minds of politicians and the general public.
