| Project office ‘Luther 2017’ |
The theme of the preparations for the Reformation Anniversary Celebration is ‘Luther 2017 – 500 Years of Reformation’. ‘Luther’ signifies the emphasis placed on Luther’s life and ministry. ‘500 Years of Reformation’ directs attention to the Reformation’s historical impact around the world – on church, state, culture, and society.
The project office was opened as an initiative of the Luther Memorials Foundation of Saxony-Anhalt at the end of 2007; it is dedicated to the preparation of the Anniversary of the Reformation in 2017 and of the Luther Decade. The project office operates under the name ‘Luther 2017’ and works together with the Wittenberg office of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD). To date, the project office ‘Luther 2017’ has been funded by the state of Saxony-Anhalt. However, it has always operated on a national and international level in order to develop the anniversary into an event of corresponding proportions. The project office ‘Luther 2017’ is located on the premises of the Leucorea Foundation in Wittenberg. |
